Centuries-old history

Noszvaj is one of the settlements with the cleanest air in Hungary, popular among gastronomy lovers and of significant touristic importance. Located near Eger, Noszvaj was originally founded by Italian settlers. Its name also comes from this origin, as in Latin it means: Our village.

The atmosphere of Noszvaj

What gives Noszvaj its unique atmosphere? Many attribute the village’s magic to the famous beehive stones, believing that the Earth’s energy is reflected in them. We believe that, in addition to the exceptionally clean air, the special climate and the many natural treasures, it is the Oxigén experience and our hospitality that bring guests back to us year after year.

The Galassy family

The history of our baby-friendly wellness hotel dates back to before the 1900s, when Berta Steinhauser married the military commander Gyula Galassy. Near their former residence, the De la Motte Castle in Noszvaj, the Berta Manor (Galassy Mansion) was built between approximately 1901 and 1904 as the center of their modern estate of the time. Today, this building houses our hotel.

Great care was continuously taken to develop and maintain the castle surroundings. Count Galassy enjoyed traveling to distant parts of the world, and from his journeys to East Asia he brought home the traditions of bathing, meditation and the special Japanese wellness experience known today as ZEN Spa. On the estate, he created a lake with small bridges and a bathhouse, which most likely stood on the site of the hotel’s current ZEN Spa.

In the second half of the 20th century, the building functioned as a corporate holiday resort and later as a hotel. Following renovations, since June 2012 a four-star, child- and baby-friendly wellness hotel has been welcoming families seeking relaxation, offering unforgettable experiences along with indoor and outdoor programs.

Gastronomy, viticulture and winemaking

Viticulture and winemaking have played an important role in the village for a very long time. Next to the hotel building stands the former manor cellar, today known as the Thummerer Wine Cellar. Its history is carved into more than four thousand square meters of underground space. The walls of the passages are covered with a thick velvet layer of noble mold, creating a unique microclimate.

If you would like to taste a wine of true historical significance, you can do so in our De la Motte Restaurant or in our Family Bar.

A family legend

According to a secret legend, Lady Berta, the former namesake of the Galassy Mansion, would walk around the building in the evenings, talking to the trees and bushes and picking her favorite flowers. Thanks to this care, the plants seemed to fill with life, and nature flourished in renewed greenery.

Take a walk through the garden of the Oxigén Family Hotel*** forest wellness hotel along the same paths once walked by Lady Berta, and experience how nature returns your attention.
